Catalytic Converter Theft Warning PDF Print E-mail

La Mesa Police Dept. wants to advise residents of vehicle catalytic converter thefts occurring throughout the city.

The La Mesa Police Department has taken several reports over the last month regarding Catalytic Converter thefts. A Catalytic Converter is a part of the exhaust system located underneath vehicles. Catalytic converters contain small amounts of precious metal, which can be recycled for cash. Thieves can remove catalytic converters by sliding under high-profile vehicles and using a saw to detach them from engines. While most of the thefts have been concentrated on the west part of the city, it is important for everyone to be vigilant in securing their vehicles. All of the vehicles have been Toyotas, especially 4-Runners and pick up trucks. The thieves have been striking in the overnight hours. If you see or hear anything suspicious, please contact police.
