LA MESA -- Ernest Ewin is a former banker who now works as a consultant. He has been involved in civic life in La Mesa for decades and also serves on the Metropolitan Transit System Board. As an incumbent, he is seeking re-election to the La Mesa City Council. In the third installment of the "Six Questions'' series, Ewin answers these questions:

The public is invited to attend an Open House on Saturday, September 4 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The event will include unit displays in the Police Station Community Room, tours of the station, and a BBQ fundraiser sponsored by both the Police Officers Association (POA) and the Peer Support Team.
The funds raised will help the Peer Support Team provide various services, including providing training to employees on healthy ways to manage stress, providing resources to coworkers who may have sick, injured, or ill family members, staying in touch with injured employees who are out of work for extended periods of time, and many more.

The County Office of Emergency Services is the first local agency in the nation to test new technology that could send mass text alerts in emergency situations to notify people in specified areas. The Office of Emergency Services (OES) is working with Sprint and California’s Emergency Management Agency to test the technology, called the Commercial Mobile Alert System, or CMAS. CMAS is a national program established by the Federal Communications Commission to provide emergency information from federal, state and local officials about disasters, terrorist threats and other imminent dangers. Residents can receive cell phone alerts by registering their numbers with AlertSanDiego at www.ReadySanDiego.org. |

El Cajon and La Mesa Police Hosting Prescription Drop Off Site |

On Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM, the El Cajon Police Department and La Mesa Police Department, working in conjunction with Drug Enforcement Administration, are hosting a prescription drug drop off site. This is part of the American Medicine Chest Challenge that is encouraging citizens to get rid of their unused and out dated prescription drugs.
Go to www.Americanmedicinechest.com for more information. The site will be in the parking lot of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Facility, 250 Travelodge Drive, El Cajon. The site will be staffed by El Cajon and La Mesa Police Officers and DEA representatives. Bring your out dated, unused or unwanted prescription pills, ointments, or liquids; no questions asked.
